Headaches and Migraines
Chiropractic Treatment for Headaches and Migraines
Headaches can be caused when the neck muscles and muscles of the scalp tense up causing them to tighten. This can be due to stress and tension. Sometimes people complain of a tight band feeling across the head. Working at a computer screen for a long length of time can strain the eyes which can cause headaches. Head and neck positions while sitting, sleeping, depression, anxiety or whiplash injuries can cause headaches due to the jolting of the neck muscles which in turn can cause spasms in the neck muscles creating a headache. Headaches that are found to originate from the neck and or shoulders are also termed ‘cervicogenic headaches’.
Dull, and tight band headaches, present most of the scalp area, but commonly worse at the temples and the base of the back of the head near the neck. Pressure point headaches can be very painful. Sometimes on examination with a Chiropractor, he can produce the same pain due to causing pressure on a certain point of the neck or shoulders and sometimes the patient will feel the sensation of shooting pain.
Tension headaches can be helped by Chiropractic treatment. Our Chiropractors in Leeds work directly into the muscles and trigger points. Ice packs can help alleviate the pain, neck exercises and relaxation techniques can all help in preventing a tension headache.
If you are experiencing headaches that are unusual to you, which cause you to be worried or feel unwell, or your headaches are accompanied by any of the following symptoms, please make an appointment with your GP immediately: dizziness, double vision, difficulty swallowing, altered speech, sudden fainting, nausea, uncontrolled eye movements, weakness in any of your limbs and problems with balance and co-ordination.
