Osteoarthritis of the knee
Osteoarthritis of the Knee is a common cause of constant knee pain, it is more common in patients over 50 and a higher percentage of this complaint is in Woman rather than men. Sometimes a past history of high activity in sports and overuse may also increase the likelihood of Osteoarthritis of the knee, Osteoarthritic changes are when the cartilage is wearing away or meniscus. The pain occurs once the cartilage has worn down ,pain can be felt when walking down the stairs, squatting and running or walking,this is because there is increased pressure through the knee joint during these type of activities,You may well present with stiffness in the knees with inactivity, you may also feel clicking and grinding.
What can we do about the Pain?
Nothing can be done to reverse degeneration of the cartilage, however, treatment can help reduce pain considerably and increase mobility. As soon as you discover any form of pain in the knee a visit to a Chiropractor or Physiotherapist to help relieve your pain.
